RATS for DOS (RATS386)
Product Information

This page provides information on DOS version of RATS.

Please note that PC RATS, the slower, conventional-memory-only DOS product, has been discontinued. Old licenses for PC RATS (no matter how old) can be updated to the current release of WinRATS-32.

Description
The DOS version of RATS is called RATS386. RATS386 is an extended-memory, 32-bit DOS application, and requires either an 80386, 80486, or Pentium processor (or Intel-compatible processors). For 80386 systems, RATS386 requires a math co-processor (these are built-in on 80486DX and Pentium systems).

Because it is compiled as a 32-bit application, RATS386 runs significantly faster than the 16-bit version of WinRATS (usually about 50% faster). It runs at about the same speed as the 32-bit version of WinRATS, which has similar hardware requirements.

RATS386 includes its own memory manager, so it can also make use of whatever extended/expanded memory is available on your system. It can handle approximately 128,000 data points per megabyte of available memory. RATS386 also offers a built-in virtual memory driver, so free disk space can be used to provide additional capacity. RATS386 is fully compatible with popular DOS memory management utilities, and with Microsoft Windows and OS/2

System Requirements
The following are the minimum hardware requirements for running RATS386. Data-handling capacity is determined by the amount of available memory.

  • an 80386 or 80486SX CPU with an external math co-processor, or an 80486DX or Pentium CPU (which include a built-in co-processor).
  • at least 8Mb of RAM (additional RAM provides additional capacity)
  • a hard disk drive with at least 3Mb of free disk space
  • one 3.5" floppy disk drive
